Executive Director — David Bowen accepted the position of YPM Executive Director July 1, 2013 and is one of a long line of committed and passionate leaders since YPM’s inception.
David has a Masters of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary and served as a pastor for 26 years. David served as chaplain in the PA Department of Corrections for 21 years: at SCI-Huntingdon from 1990-1997 as a part time contract chaplain and at SCI Smithfield from 1997-2011 as the Facility Chaplaincy Program Director. During those 21 years David supervised Yokefellowship ministries in both prisons. Since David retired in 2011, he and his wife Reba have been serving weekly as Yokefellowship volunteers in SCI-Smithfield. Additionally, Reba and David have been sharing the love of Christ in many churches, prisons, and jails throughout Pennsylvania.
I came to faith in Christ as a child having grown up in a Christian home with godly parents. I was baptized at twelve years of age and have been a member of the Church of the Nazarene since that time. My father took me to jail as a volunteer for the first time when I was ten years old. My father involved me in his ministry throughout my life until his death in 2011. For the last several years of his life, my father came to prison as a volunteer under my ministry as a chaplain. He was always my mentor. He was my Paul. I was his Timothy. As a student at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts, I met D. Elton Trueblood who was a visiting guest speaker. I read his “Company of the Committed” and entered into a yokefellowship with three other men that have remained faithful Yokefellows with me for the past 49 years. I thank God for their influence in my life and ministry. In 1967 I married Reba Jones, a missionary’s daughter who grew up in Barbados and Panama. We have been yokefellows in ministry now for 45 years. Whatever we do, we do together. God knew that I of all men would need a helpmeet, and He gave me the best for which I am deeply grateful. I am the person “up front”, but she is behind the scenes supporting me, encouraging me, keeping me accountable and doing the work for which I get the credit. – David Bowen, June 2013
